Music man came in, from the Music for Schools Foundation, to show the children different instruments and gave some the opportunity to play one. He played different tunes on his trumpet and explained how to use the mouth pieces to make a sound. He showed lots of different sounds. The children were amazed. He used words of pipes, valves and vibrations. He will be offering lessons so look out for a letter being sent home.
In topic lessons the children have used maps and atlases to locate countries in the world as well as towns, cities and where they personally live. They have looked at map symbols and what they mean and will soon write about one of the countries we have selected to focus on.
Thousand hours of kindness
In October, we start our 1000 hours of kindness. Two lovely ladies came and introduced the scheme to us during Collective Worship last week. As a class we are going to try really hard to give more than this number of hours of kindness by helping others, inviting people to play with us, holding doors open, showing good manners, being kind towards ourselves and lots more. We will keep track of the number of hours we manage and hopefully we can win a prize!
This term we are focusing on place value. We have been ordering, comparing, rounding and even looking at negative numbers. We have been drawing, making and writing the numbers and challenging ourselves on the next steps.
In PE this term we are playing basketball. The children have been learning the techniques of dribbling and defending, leading into mini games. We will move on to shooting and then larger games as the term continues.
We have started our ukulele lessons this term. So far the children have developed their listening skills by learning repetitive songs as well as the notes for each ukulele string -’ Elephants eat cakes greedily’ (E A C G). This week (wb 23rd) they started to play a simple spider, spider, bug, bug tune.
There has been some lovely homework handed in already which is fantastic! The children have been researching popular landmarks all over the world as part of our topic this term. We have even had some uploaded to our class dojo with videos! Amazing!
